Pro Tip

Should you take the same course twice? Short answer...Yes!

While it might seem redundant at first, repeating a course can offer a wealth of benefits. We call these "refresher" courses. Taking a refresher course is a smart and effective way to strengthen your knowledge and skills and offers numerous benefits. Some benefits include:

  1. Reinforces Knowledge – It helps solidify concepts and ensures you fully understand the material.
  2. Fills Gaps – A second pass lets you catch anything you missed or forgot the first time.
  3. Boosts Confidence – Revisiting the course increases your competence, making you feel more confident in applying the knowledge.
  4. Lightbulb Moments - As you bridge knowledge gaps and elevate your confidence, you'll experience those lightbulb moments. These are the instances when a concept suddenly makes perfect sense or you discover newfound value in a tool you've been honing through practice.
  5. Updates Information – Courses may have been updated with new data or practices to keep you current in your field.
  6. Improves Retention – Repetition strengthens memory and makes the information easier to recall in the long term.
  7. Discounted Rates—Some organizations offer discounts for refreshers. For example, ToP Facilitation Methods refreshers are only $250!

There is so much value in taking a course more than once. We hope to see you in the training room (again)!

Since 1994, the Nonprofit Management Fund has operated as a collaboration of private funders in the metropolitan Milwaukee area. Collectively, the funders have contributed over $9.9 million for grants to nonprofit organizations and to implement related initiatives. Their mission is to accelerate the effectiveness of nonprofits to build strong and vibrant communities. The Nonprofit Management Fund holds the core belief that strong nonprofits build strong communities, so they provide capacity-building technical assistance grants to nonprofit organizations for governance planning, training, and assessment.

HueLife customized an introductory course for fund members in the spring, teaching a strategic planning framework and the leadership concepts necessary to lead strategic change. Participants learned to develop and communicate their vision, build successful plans, and inspire their team to move into meaningful action. As a result of this partnership,  four Milwaukee area nonprofits that participated in the course will receive pro-bono strategic planning services to experience what they learned. We will feature these organizations and their fantastic work in our 2025 newsletters.

                YouLEAD24 at Protez

Ukrainian and American Veterans came together in a lightly attended workshop on September 23, at the International City Manager’s Association to hear about efforts for Veteran ‘Reintegration’ in Ukraine (and the USA). The stories were inspiring, unfathomable in scope, and heartbreaking all at the same time. It was disappointing to see only a tiny fraction, made up of mostly American Veterans, of the conference attendees gather to hear of Lviv, Ukraine’s comprehensive mind, body, and soul UNBROKEN program for hundreds of thousands of military and civilian war casualties. This Ukrainian program could serve as a blueprint for how US communities can address struggles with homelessness, violence, and drug use as consequences of veteran mental health issues.

It was hard… really hard to send our YouLEAD teenage students back to their Ukrainian homes in cities that suffer constant bombardment after the five-week leadership program which ended September 16. But, their country needs them. As they return to their cities and villages across Ukraine, these 15-17-year-olds are creating their own non-profit aimed at establishing reintegration programs for veterans starting with ‘teens and veteran conversations.’ I watched as our fifteen Ukrainians and two Minnesotan youth mingled with severely wounded veterans receiving prosthetics at PROTEZ in Oakdale, MN. As apprehension and pity melted away, they had an open discussion on how to treat each other on the streets and cafes, and in the workplaces they will share. As the Ukrainians were joined by an American Green Baret amputee from the war in Afghanistan, he shared his suggestions to the teens in the same way he hopes Americans see their veterans. ‘Honor the sacrifices of these soldiers,’ he said, ‘they are heroes. They don’t need pity, they need community. They don’t want you to feel sorry for them, or to be afraid of them, they need connection and opportunity.’ (Our thanks to DAV (Disabled American Veterans) for stepping forward to be part of the “community.”

See the Minnesota Channel 9 story on Protez and YouLEAD and join us in support of Ukrainian veterans who are receiving prosthetics in MN at Protez.
