đ Message from HueLife Team:
A Masterclass in Resilience
This month, we reflect on resilienceânot as an abstract ideal, but as a daily act of courage, presence, and defiance. Richard Fursmanâs vivid recounting of a recent trip to Ukraine with Irina offers a raw and inspiring glimpse into a community that refuses to be broken. Amid air raid sirens, missile strikes, and drone attacks, the breakfast is served with grace. The people of Ukraine are modeling what it means to keep moving, creating, connecting, and living with purpose in the face of fear. They believe resilience is not built in isolationâit is forged in community, in the way we show up for one another, make meaning together, and choose to live fully even in uncertain times.
Building Resilience with EQ Assessment - Lumina Emotion
What happens when youâre under pressure? Do you shut down, snap back, or stretch yourself too thin?
Lumina Emotion is a powerful tool that helps leaders understand their emotional patterns, recognize overextensions, and build the self-awareness needed to bounce back more effectively. This month, we explore how the tool can be used to strengthen emotional agility and increase resilience in leadership and in life.
Step away from the routine. Create space for reflection, clarity, and growth.
HueLifeâs Transformational Leadership Retreat is a 3-day immersive experience where youâll clear your leadership lens, gain new perspectives, and strengthen your capacity to lead with greater purpose. Whether youâre leading a team, an organization, or your own next chapter, this retreat offers space to reconnect with why and how you lead in times of uncertainty.
Honoring the Resilience of Linda Alton and Melvin Giles
Resilience is not just the ability to endure hardship, itâs the courage to rise, respond, and rebuild with purpose. This month, we honor two extraordinary individuals whose lives embodied this kind of transformative resilience.
Linda Alton and Melvin Giles, both of whom passed away in recent weeks, dedicated their lives to justice, equity, and the power of community. Their journeys were marked not by ease, but by relentless commitment to what is right, even in the face of adversity.
Linda Altonâs life was a symphony of courageous action and global service. From the streets of Harlem to rural Kenya and the slums of Manila, she worked tirelessly to empower women, strengthen families, and build grassroots capacity for change. A fierce advocate for peace and justice since her days at UC Berkeley during the Free Speech and anti-war movements, Linda wove her moral clarity into everything she touched. Whether training facilitators in Minnesota or building hostas in her Minneapolis garden, Linda never stopped planting seeds of hope. Her life reminds us that resilience is nurtured in both bold activism and tender acts of everyday kindness.
Melvin Giles, a beloved community peacemaker and cultural bridge builder, walked through life as a quiet force of radical love. His work in St. Paul and beyond sparked transformation across racial, economic, and generational lines. Melvin didnât just believe in community - he embodied it. His vision for justice was rooted in deep listening, restorative action, and tireless presence, even when the work was thankless or heavy. His legacy lives on in the gardens he cultivated, the dialogues he led, and the countless lives he inspired to believe that peace is possible.
Let us draw strength from leaders like Linda and Melvinâresilient spirits who never gave up, who dared to believe that change is not only possible but necessary. They focused their energy on what mattered most: dismantling systems of injustice, nurturing the human spirit, and building bridges where there were once walls. Though their physical presence is no longer with us, their legacies continue to fuel our work, reminding us that transformation begins with a single, courageous step, taken again and again, with hope.
Let us honor their memory not only with our words, but with our actions. In Lindaâs spirit, do an intentional act of kindness. In Melvinâs name, plant a seed of peace.

Announcing the Linda Alton Scholarship Fund Established July 25, 2025
For over a decade, HueLife has proudly supported individuals in transition, community advocates, and students through scholarships designed to make facilitation training more accessible. Today, we are honored to deepen that commitment with the establishment of the Linda Alton Scholarship Fund, created in loving memory of our dear friend, mentor, and global changemaker, Linda Pierce Alton.
Linda dedicated her life to justice, equity, and compassionate service, from grassroots communities in Kenya and the Philippines to facilitation circles in Minnesota. She believed deeply in the power of people to come together, speak with clarity, and co-create meaningful change. To honor her enduring legacy, this fund will expand access to Technology of Participation (ToPÂŽ) facilitationtraining for individuals who are:
Committed to supporting others as volunteers or community leaders
Experiencing career or life transition
Facing financial barriers to professional development
The Linda Alton Scholarship Fund will provide partial and full scholarships to those who exemplify Lindaâs spirit and committed to building stronger communities through participatory leadership.
We invite our broader community to contribute to this fund and join us in ensuring that Lindaâs legacy of justice and facilitative leadership continues to thrive for generations to come. Global Synergy Group, Inc (501C3) non-profit will serve as a managing partner for the fund.
